Looking At South Beach Versus Nutrisystem Shows Two Very Different Choices

By Dorthy Weatherbush

When it comes to south beach diet versus nutrisystem, how do you know which program to choose? To make these choices you must look at your end goal. Do you want to only lose weight or do you want to change your life through a series of behavioral tweaks?

The Nutrisystem program, in essence, is a food delivery service. Every week you will receive a box of frozen entrees that will carry you through the week and that you will only have to add fresh vegetables and fruits to.

This is especially enticing when it comes to doing something easy. All of the ratios of fiber, fat, carbs, and proteins have already been thought out for you. What you will have to adjust to is the smaller portions, but there is room to snack as long as you stick to veggies.

The question becomes, do you want everything done for you? There are some issues with this including making eating out more than a chore and if you have friends over you can't expect them to eat your Nutrisystem with you. This program may work best for the single careerist who doesn't want to deal with cooking beyond the microwave.

What about a diet that you control? Well, this is where South Beach comes in. Unlike other low carb diets, South Beach is better about allowing you to treat yourself in the form of fruits. Most other programs consider the carbs in fruit off limits. The pro of a low carb lifestyle is that you are most likely taking away the food stuff that has been adding the weight to your body, while being forced to embrace things like fresh vegetables.

This philosophical shift will be hard in the beginning, but be warned that the detox period that last two weeks will be both an eye opener as well as extremely difficult. Eating carbs means eating sugar and once you stop you will realize how much your body has been taking in.

During your induction phase you will be eating practically no carbs which will force your body to detox from sugars and carbs and you will notice that a number of cravings that used to have regularly are no longer there. Desserts will also taste richer and you will not eat as much because your body is no longer numb to the effects of sugar from your over consumption.

After induction you will be introducing more and more carbohydrates back into your diet, including whole grains. The goal of this step wise process is to show you that your ratios have been off and you will learn how to eat better and in a way that is conducive to weight loss.

If you want to make your own food or have it sent to you will be the question you must ask yourself when deciding to lose weight. There are no right answers, only the answers that are right for you.
