What Are Kettlebells And Whats The Big Deal?

By Greg Diener

Numerous people view kettlebells as another fad in the already crowded world of workout and weight loss equipment. What's another product going to do that the hundreds of already existing ones don't do? Kettlebell exercises are more than simply lifting weights or dumbbells to gain muscles. It's about getting a powerful full body workout, in a fraction of the time. It doesn't help that many people don't know what these little weights are to begin with.

The Russians are credited with devising kettle bells, although they have in truth been around for thousands of years, in one form or another, with one name or another. But regardless if it was the ancient Romans, Scotsmen, or Russians who first realized the value of kettlebells as an exercise tool, the finding was an amazing one. The simple balls of metal with a handle attached are simply one of the best styles out there.

The kettlebell is an incredible weight. They are made up of metal and the weight is hooked onto a handle. It is a Russian phrase for the word "pood" which defines the various portions of weights used in the exercise. It is determined that it weighs at nearly 36 pounds. The definition of "pood" goes back to around the 13th Century. These weights were also one time used to sort out dry goods.

The kettlebell workouts, however, are all about serious physical training with a long term reward. The afterburn effect, when your body continues to burn calories up to 48 hours after you stop working out, is one of the leading derivatives of kettlebell workouts. You can work out 1-2 hours every other day and still get the same workout as if you went every day of the week for 4-5 hours. The serious muscle workout that the kettlebells provide make this feasible.

One important thing to know is that kettlebells are not an immediate success product. If you are looking for that, then you need to look in a different place. There is not a single legitimate exercise program that does not require time and sweat to garner successes. Kettle-bells are positively included in that. But the payoffs show in a quick period of time. If running on a treadmill at the gym like a hamster is for you, then by all means run. But if working out three days a week, from your own home while getting faster results appeals to you, check out kettle bell exercises today.
