Obesity: Be Part of the Solution, Not the Problem

By Chris Benini

It's no secret that America is obese. One way to avoid obesity is incorporating exercise in your every day lifestyle. A lot of people say that they don't have time for the gym. However, there are ways to incorporate exercise in your every day life. Go for a walk on your lunch break instead of eating junk in the break room. Maybe use a commuter bike to get to the grocery store instead of driving.

Obesity is a massive epidemic. As a matter of fact 35 percent of adults in the United States are considered obese. In addition, approximately 34 percent of the American population is considered overweight but not obese. That means two out of three adults in the United States are considered at the very least overweight. It also means that two out of three American adults are also at higher risk of terminal illnesses such as Type-2 Diabetes or Heart Disease.

Exercise is important in fighting the epidemic of obesity. Your daily lifestyle should include exercise. Sedentary lifestyle is a big reason that obesity is part of the problem. The majority of Americans sit all day. Whether it is in the car, at work, at lunch or watching television, they are always sitting and never moving around. Not only is working out at a gym or fitness center important but moving around throughout the day is crucial as well. Using a commuter bike is a great way to ensure you are active throughout the day.

In this day and age exercise is a requirement for living a healthy lifestyle. Before these technological advancements people would get their exercise from every day necessary work. Newer technological advancements have made every day activities that required exercise obsolete. People had to walk or used commuter bike before we had cars. There were push lawnmowers before ride-mowers. The growth of fast food is also a large reason for the growth of America's waistline.

Obesity is an epidemic that is being taken too lightly in the United States. The fact that it is linked to diseases that can kill you should be enough of a warning. Daily exercise and nutrition are keys to avoiding the epidemic. Take and action and don't be part of the obesity epidemic that is killing off America.
